no news????
I've been checking gradcafe like mad for the past couple of weeks and lurking these forums (sorry for the lack of posts).
So far I have no news from: Harvard, Columbia, UCBerkeley and NYU, but they seem to have made a lot of acceptances already. Anyone on the same boat? |

I think you will find that many of us are in the same "boat". Though I have heard from Berkeley, probably only because I applied to the AREC program and not the Econ program, I have not heard back from Harvard, Columbia nor NYU. At this point, I have kind of lost any hope about this schools because it seems to me that they must have filled out their admits quota already. It is not that I want to be a party pooper, but this is just how I feel.
Remember that I am probably just being pessimistic and that probably no news at all is better than a reject, at least you can feel there is some hope left. |

So, given the information we have so far, it seems that since you haven't heard from Columbia and Harvard, you are rejected from them. NYU though will admit more people in 10-20 days, so there is hope. I don't know about Berkeley, it seems that they haven't finished informing their applicants

me. i'm in the very same position as you are, except that it's Harvard Bussiness School instead of Harvard Econ Dept... I've been already denied admission by MECS and UPenn, so I don't really have very high hopes (plus none of the Business schools every called me for an interview, including HBS). I guess I'm out of NYU, CU and HBS, but keep my fingers crossed for Berkeley, although my chances are slim. I've got a rather non-standard (non-quantitative) background, so I don't really see how any Adcom could be convinced by exactly 0(!!) math courses I have ever taken in my life (my econ background, on the other hand, is very strong - standard PhD sequence at a top Euro masters program with very good, although not exactly stellar grades)... On a second thought, I guess I'll be sent my UCB reject today

Similarly, no news from any of those (I didn't apply to NYU, though, so no big surprise there
). I would suppose that Harvard's silence is as good as a rejection, seeing that they sent out waitlist notices already. Unless there's a last minute addition to the waitlist. |

OK, lemme clarify this. I never had any FORMAL math education past high school. Of course, to be able to follow a rigorous & brutal PhD sequence (and get very decent grades, I might add), I had to self-study a lot and make up for everything I missed before. But none of this is included in any of my transcripts, so formally no maths courses... Got the idea?
