I couldn't make it to the visit day. However, I got an email from Chris Otrok, saying I will get a financial aid package next week. Among my acceptances, do you think UVA ranks as well as ASU or UC Davis for a macro guy?

I am partial to UVA because of the micro and IO, I have no idea about macro besides that ASU has Prescott.

Hey...we have a Prescott as well. Ned (Ed's son) is currently teaching my macro class. However, don't give your hopes up, he's only visiting because the usual prof is on sabbatical for the class. ASU also has Rogerson...who is really big in Macro. I also applied to UC Davis and ASU with interests in Macro. i personally would have chosen ASU for Macro over UVA if I had gotten in and received an aid package.

Thanks for the info. However, at this point I am weighing both UIUC and CMU...I am really glad about the other offers, though. I'll be flying to the US next week.

I couldn't make it to the flyout either, but could anyone comment on the environment at the department for someone (like me) interested in development/international/public economics? (i.e. who I can work with etc)

I think they said that they currently have three strong people who specialize in international, and are adding another in the fall. They said that having three strong people specializing in international is unusual, let alone having four. I haven't personally checked out this claim.

I made a spreadsheet of their current professors and specializations. The link is on the first page of this thread (#9) I believe.
