Placements 2007-2008
Feel free to post anything peculiar about this year's job market outcomes here. In particular, does anyone know which schools had unusually good placements and which schools had usually bad placements this year? Was this year particularly good or bad for certain fields? Anything else interesting you might know?

I should say that the market for econometricians is less influenced by the rankings..
so young econometricians.. don't lose the hope.. find the place where you can find good mentors and a lot of classes in econometrics and stats.. |

Do we talk about Jenish Nazgul? She is really great. I saw the presentation of her job market paper about central limit theorems. I also know her supervisor (Kelijan). He's also a great teacher. Just in case you were talking about her: I am actually not surprised that she is considered as a top candidate this year. I think I know where she's going to go (without being too precise at this point in time - as she's considering our institute): europe.

By a model is meant a mathematical construct, which with the addition of certain verbal interpretations, describes observed phenomena. The justification of such a mathematical construct is solely and precisely that it is expected to work." John von Neumann Last edited by Valhalla : 03-14-2008 at 09:04 AM. |

It'll be great if people currently at grad school (eg. Cassin at Princeton, Antichron at MIT, Asquare at Michigan, etc.) can tell us by name who is placed where..?? We can ovisously look at their CVs as every dept. has the CVs of students on the job market on their website..I think this will be valuable information for us students in the process of making a decision on grad schools..!!! Thanx..

This is the people who is going to Maryland this year.
"The Department of Economics is pleased and excited to announce that, beginning in fall 2008, the following outstanding scholars will be joining our faculty as Assistant Professors: Jeanne Lafortune and Raymond Guiteras from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Pablo D'Erasmo from The University of Texas at Austin, and Soohyung Lee from Stanford University. We enthusiastically welcome them to our Department." By the way, it looks like Kranton is leaving Maryland to Duke. Anyone can confirm this information? In her CV appear like a double appointment. |

Does anybody know if Texas A&M is good in metrics? I looked them up on the econphd[dot]net rankings, and they placed TAMU above Rice (and I always here people on this board saying that Rice is good in metrics). Basically, I am just wondering if the rankings can be trusted, is TAMU strong in metrics?
