My main point was that in my opinion and in my area of interests, Yale is underrated and on the way up and maybe princeton might be overrated and in a bit of a slump. Always talking about macro here. I do think macro is broader at princeton than yale which is sort of eclectic but getting less so.

I also liked the atmosphere amoung macro profs. This is an extreme example but Moscarini meets ONCE A WEEK with his students! man that will whip your job market paper into shape for sure. I walked right into Tony Smiths office three times on each day I was at Yale and we ended up talking for a lot each time. Anyway, this is just my personal feeling and should not be extrapolated nor compared to other places at all. I just thought it might help explain why I suddenly like Yale so much more than before.

And regarding offers, Yale told us they wanted to expand macro and would make 4-5 senior macro hires in this and the next year, even if the current ones don't work out, so thats an additionof somebody cool and signals they mean business. Thats always good.
A Yale professor cantacted me before and told me that they have issued 5 offers to macro people and 5 offers to trade people. Also, he said that there is one really big big guy that he could not reveal at this time. If they successfully build up their macro and trade, I really believe now Yale should not rank 6 or 7. It should rank 4 or 5. Anyone agrees with me?

Offers can be accepted or rejected and often professor use them to increase their bargaining power.
Princeton for example offered a position to Monika Piazzesi and Martin Schneider, but they preferred going back to Stanford. Next year they will offer someone else and so on. I assign a very small probability to the event [no big hiring in macro at Princeton within the next 2 years].
That is to say that I would not evaluate a department on the number of offers they have out. I simply observed that right now, Yale is still weak in Macro.
Yes I totally agree. Yale is the shrine for econometrics. While its strength on macro is highly uncertain, if we consider the rumor on new offers to macro guys.

I've just got into Princeton. Harvard said the acceptance rate is too high to process to waiting list. Between Yale and Princeton, I accept Princeton.

I would like to thank you all for comments and help. Wish you the best luck.
