Yale and waitlisting in Harvard and Princeton
Hi, TMers. I am really in a trouble now. I got admitted by Yale and was placed on the waiting list in Harvard and Princeton. I really don't know what I should do at this time: accept Yale or to wait for the two schools.
I am not very sure about what I would do in the future, theory or econometrics. The placement of doing theory is not that good compared to doing econometrics. But it seems that I love theory a little bit at present. Any suggestions are helpful! |

About April 15th...does one have to answer before April 15th or on April 15th? In the case of schools with waitlists, assuming that all candidates not attending wait until the last minute to decline their offers, when do slots become available? On April 15th, or on the 16th?
In the same context, an unanswering candidate can/will be dismissed if the school doesn't hear from this person up to this point, right? Cheers, AT PS: Frankcw, congrats on your admit at Yale, and good luck with H and P!

But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." And he answered, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." --Mt 15, 25-28a

i think the schools just don't have the right to withdraw an offer before april 15th. after april 15th they are allowed to withdraw the offer if you haven't accepted, although it doesn't mean they necessarily will.

Both Princeton and Harvard said that most waiting-list students get offers on April 14th and April 15th. But I think the last date to answer Yale is April 15th. So I am getting mad...... I have waited for a month or so and made a very tough decision: to decline Berkeley. Even when P comes, my advisor here says P does not dominate Yale. It becomes even harder to choose between P and Yale. Do waitinglist people get treated differently after they enroll? |

First of all congrats on the brilliant set of admits and waitlists.
Indeed Harvard and Princeton are slightly better than Yale but only SLIGHTLY. You can not go wrong with Yale. However try calling up Harvard and Princeton, asking about how high you are on the waitlist and likelihood of getting in, etc. I think no one, and this is just my opinion, would dare decline Harvard, but you never know! All the best and keep us posted. Sam. |
