BU(no fund) vs OSU(fellowship)
Hi everybody,
As other TMers do, I am considering two options for deciding a school. ![]() My options : BU(no fund at first year) vs OSU (fellowship) My ineterests lies in Behavioral economics but I do not know exactly that these schools cover this field. There are some information that OSU program has strengh in experimental economics and BU has strength in decision theory and overall microeconomics in which I am more interested than macro and econometrics. In addition, recently, BU has good job placements. In this regards, I have a question and expect your kind and helpful replies. Do you think that BU program is better than OSU with fellowship? (Many professors recommend me BU program but I am not sure that it is better choice. If you are in my situation, which school do you decide? Please, add the reason) Last edited by Vaca : 04-04-2008 at 09:13 AM. |

Basically, you want to join BU right?
To be honest, there is no advantege or disadventage in the job market where you will be graduated. As an outsider, I mean you are not in US Phd program yet, your decision should be based on some particular ranking lists e.g. U.S.News or Econphd. The important problem is the market keeps changing. We need some private information. This is the reason this kind of forums are so popular at this time period. As you may know, BU is rising. This is true based on last 2~3 year-history. BU has hired some brilliant theoriests and juniors from world-class institutes. It has a momentum. Then, is OSU downward? I don't think so. OSU has listed its name on top 30 universities for a long time. Your concern might be from the desire to get a good job, I guess. You want a top economist like Dr.Epstein or Dr.Lipman to be your advisor. It can work. But we have to admit that the chance should be slim. The competition to appeal a famous faculty is also quite huge in OSU. I mean it is risky in some sense. In the course of your study, if you are free from financial issue, then your life will be more comfortable and less stressful, I'm sure. I hope it will be helpful to you. |
