Congrats! Tough decision, now. Minnesota is the better school, but it seems like a metric ton of TA work there.

Better to have the decision than to not, though!

For those wondering, I'm still waitlisted.

The TA bit doesn't seem too awful... 2 hours a week worth of discussion sections + attendance of lectures. I did a similar thing last year TAing intermediate macro. Of course, I wasn't a graduate student at Minnesota then In any case, they give you the whole summer to prepare for prelims, so that part at least shouldn't be a problem (it seem that almost no one fails prelims, actually).

I guess 20 K is really 16 K, though. Upon closer inspection of the e-mail, it says I am responsible for student fees (~$2400) and some part of health insurance (~$1200).

Since you are still waitlisted, I take it you didn't let them know you're going to Rochester? Or you didn't officially accept Rochester yet?

Congrats! ACCEPT IT! Trust me, another year for just a possible shot at a top 10 isn't worth it, especially given its placement record.

Huh, the package I got said 13 hours a week for first year, 20 a week thereafter. I don't know if we're reading the same document.

I've accepted Rochester, expecting nothing from Minnesota. Even if Minnesota lets me in the gate at the last minute, I probably - probably - will stay the course, and avoid the TA work.

I'm also not a fan of UMN's size.

UMN and Rochester are pretty good substitutes in terms of placement, anyway. You made the right choice.

Here's a direct quote from the e-mail:

" Teaching duties for first-year students most often consist of leading two recitation (or discussion) sections of introductory microeconomics or macroeconomics each semester. In this case, you will meet for 50 minutes per week for 14 weeks with two separate groups of students, each of whom is also attending 3 lectures a week in a large lecture session. You are also expected to attend class lectures, so that you will know what is appropriate to discuss in the recitation section, as well as help formulate, grade and proctor examinations. Your duties include grading homework assignments and exams, however, you may receive some help from graders. "

Again, thanks everybody!!!!! InternationalStudent; you should surely get an offer you'll like next year!! It's a mystery to me that the offer from UCSD is the only one you've got this cycle.
