I'll be there too, so that makes 9 for now? TM is a kind of preperation class for UVA.

I am not 100% sure, but I understand that F1 is the typical one, and J1 forces you to go back to your home country afterwards, and stay there for a couple of years.

"If you are interested in studying in the US at an accredited college or university, you will probably need an F1 student visa. The J1 visa (for exchange visitors participating in a program approved by the State Department) is also sometimes available for students."
J1, F1 Student Visas

J1 is specially for exchange programs or for Fulbrigt scholars. Peolple with J1 do have to go back to their countries and stay there for a couple of years before going back to the US. The only advantage of a J1 visa is that J2 visas (dependants) are allowed to work, while F2 visas are not allowed to work.
Hope it helps

pevdoki1 is almost a TestMagic guru.
It seems like close to half of the incoming class is composed of Test Magic users! Good job

How many weeks is math camp? Does it go right up until classes start? What day do classes start?

Congrats all you guys for getting into UVA! I'm applying there next year, and think it's a really great program.

Math camp is about 2.5 weeks, from August 7-25. Classes start on Aug. 26th. UVA's math camp is a class we get credit for and apparently it's pretty tough- we cover an entire book and then some in 2.5 wks. I don't think the material is terribly difficult if you have adequate math preparation, but it's a lot to cover in such a short time.

I just came back from visiting C-ville and UVA last week. It's a really cute little town, the department seems great, I'm very excited!

Chris Otrok said the incoming class is about 24 students, 60% American and 40% female- higher than usual for both.

Also- I suggest everyone secures housing asap. The rental market in C-Ville is pretty absurd, prices are high (higher than I'm paying in a much larger city on the west coast) and apparently people routinely secure housing for the next year in October. The housing market is my only complaint about the town.
