retaking basic math course
Hi guys,
I got C in my calculus 2 class a year ago. I don't want to justify myself but the prof was very brutal. he failed 2/3 of the class consisting primarily of math, engineering and CS majors. I am retaking it this summer (just can't live with C in my transcript:-). Should I mention in the SOP applying later to the graduate school that C still was 80-85 percentile? And also another question. If you're planning to take quite important course but you know that the prof is really not good. For example, "famous" for reducing number of enrolled in Real Analysis math majors in one year from 12 to 1 and torturing students in his other courses (making classes of 120 to 15 and giving 2-3 A's to the rest). Would you still take him and try to do your best or skip this course. Thanks |

Re-taking the Math course seems to be a tenable approach.
However, the Real Analysis course looks like a killer. But if you wait around, will you get a better instructor in the future ? If you really want to take real analysis and this instructor is constant throughout, only then you might benefit from taking the course in a reduced-load semester. |

Why bother to take it again with the same professor? Remind him that you are not entering into Math Competition or you dont have the IQ of Einstein. U are simply trying to gear up for the math requirement in Econ Phd program. |
