Monetary Economics Departments Rankings
I am going to start this topic given we were discussing for the last weak or so on the new hirings of Columbia and more generally on the top Departments in Monetary Economics. In a previous post I made the following ranking of the departments highly specialized in monetary economics(and Central Banking). My rankings are as I perceive them personally, therefore a kind of arbitrary.I have not included some great departments mostly for my lack of knowledge of what is going on there in this field(more specifically I am referring to JEL classification E 4xx, E 5xx).This ranking could be also used as a guidance to someone interesting in Monetary Economics wishing to apply in Department strongly related to this field(such is me
).I am inviting you to complete the list and of course to disagreeIMHO here is my classification 1)Columbia (Woodford and many others....., Consider also their business school) 2)Princeton (Blinder(I doubt if Svensson ever returns)) 3)NYU (Gettler) 4)UCSC (a top school if you are interest in International Economics:What could be best from working with Carl Walsh?(a good security also)) 5) Carnegie Mellon(Goodfriend (a good security also)) 6)Indiana (Leeper (a good security also)) 7)Boston (King) 8 ) Stanford U (Is Taylor still active???) 10) U California - Berkeley (I rank it as last since I believe it is more for related to International Monetary Economics rather Monetary Economics)
