Schools with a bias towards finance majors

I'm applying this fall, and I majored in economics and finance (I minored in math as well). I know most programs will view my finance major as a minor plus, but since few applicants will have a degree in finance as well, are there any departments that will view it as a significant plus?

Of course I wouldn't apply to a school just because of their admission preferences, but if there are some departments that think a finance degree is desirable, then I may look into to those departments further.

ICECOLDECON just joined TestMagic.
I can't imagine it would make any difference unless you planned on specializing in financial economics.

It's possible that PhD programs in Business Economics would look favorably upon the finance degree, although I'm entirely speculating.

It might be more appealing to schools known for financial economics, but I would in no way imagine an adcom thinking that your finance background will in any way provide a significant boost in your ability to pass classes and cores moreso than other related fields. The material covered in at least your first year classes will be unrelated (in an applied sense) with your undergrad finance degree.

I was thinking of aiming at the economics programs in the business schools.

You say "few applicants will have a degree in finance as well", did you double major or did you actually get two degrees? At most, they may look at the fact that you did two degrees in the span of one, and did well. I doubt the finance helps much, though. I majored in economics, minored in math, and have taken the finance specialization (which included three Ph.D level courses). But I don't think it helped much last year.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt economics Ph.D programs would care too much if someone had a second major at the undergraduate level in a field of economics. If you've taken graduate courses, however, I think that may add some weight to it, but I could get back to you on that when I see how my application does in the fall.
