canadian doing phd in spain?

hi people. i was wondering if anyone of you guyz/girls here come from a canadian school, doing a phd at UPF or Carlos madrid. i'll be starting my masters at university of toronto this september and im thinking of applying to 2 phd programmes in spain. im originally from the phillpines, did my undergrad in the philippines, did my second undergrad in toronto, and doing my masters in university of toronto.
could you please share your experiences? how are the programmes per se? how are you adjusting with the language? and how are the placement records? glad to hear from anyone. thanks.

It looks like UPF just placed someone (a Peruvian!) in the Bank of Canada. I had always assumed that central banks would only hire their own citizens, but apparently not.
