What do you think about the Virginia Tech?
Professors?

There are a few threads on this way back. In any event, I'll take a stab at your questions (I was an undergrad there).
1. Virginia Tech is a great place.
2. Profs are wonderful but there aren't so many of them. If you are gonna study IO or game theory, you're alright, but if you want to study something else, you are being very risky, as we will only have 1 prof. Aris Spanos is still at VT, but there are rumors that he might leave for Oxbridge.
3. You can get a good education here. The placements are very good considering most rankings put it below 90.
4. The school at large is very nice and friendly. The undergrads are mostly pleasant (if you can handle their drunkenness on game day), and the administrators are pretty cooperative.
5. Blacksburg is basically the definition of family friendly. It is a very easy place to call home. Before the awful tragedy last year, the most violent thing that ever happened here was as hold up of the 7-11 fifteen years ago.
6. Bottom line, it places pretty well for its ranking, and it costs next to nothing to go there. I'm determined to go someplace better for PhD, but you could certainly do worse. It is a good place to spend five years of your mid to late twenties.
