I just started wondering the following thing. Could a MA program in statistics at a top US university be a route for someone coming from an unknown university abroad (with MSc in economics and MSc in statistics) to a top US PhD program in economics? And is it as tough to get admitted to a MA program in statistics as it is to a PhD program in economics? Well, I guess people like me would use this option more often if it was a good idea...Or do they actually?

I have not a clue wether it will be tough to get in, but my I guess it will be (since you are referring to a top university). Keep in mind that a decent program in statistics will not be the easiest either.

Well, I am also starting to have a feeling that maybe this was not such a good idea after all. It seems to me that, at the moment, I am putting more effort into making back-up plans than into actually trying to do my best in order to get to a good school at the first attempt...
