Financial Aid for foreing Students in Europe

Hi guys,

I'm probably applying this year, and I'm shooting to a lot of Universities in both US and Europe (Toulouse, LSE, Cambridge, Tilburg and UPF, specifically). Can you give me an advice for financial aid , scholarship or something like that in Europe?.

I want to get a Phd in Economics, and I'd like to have all the decisions variables studied.

Thanks for your future advice.

For Hollland, you have the Huygens Scholarship Programme, under the Erasmus Mundus scheme.

For UK, Cambridge has 3 trusts supporting it. Could be a misconception here, but I think only Oxford and Cambridge fund properly..LSE seems to be pretty miserly?

Tillburg itself has funding for its Phd students, but I think they only take in Masters students (someone pls correct me if i'm wrong)

Tilburg takes in both PhD and MPhil students. MPhil students can get into the 1st or 2nd year. The funding situation is encouraging: they usually offer tuition waivers (EUR 8K) to all incoming MPhil students. They also offer Tilburg University Scholarships (EUR 8K in tuition + 5K living expenses).

LSE is really miserly in funding its Masters students. Conversely, Oxbridge is known to be more liberal in terms of funding.

Ha, ha. Probably Tilburg should start paying me for acting as their unofficial spokesperson in TM.

oh yes, asianeconomist, are the Tillburg university scholarships hard to get? compared to the Hugyens'? I am also in awe of the placement record of their MPhil into the Ivy..

I think that the opportunity for receiving a TUSP increases if you come from a non-EU background. There are around 50 awards in a year. IMHO, it should be easier than the Huygens. The latter is a nation-wide competition, whereas the TUSP is restricted within Tilburg.

Tilburg MPhil does place well - around 2/3 students every year make it to a top 25 Econ PhD. However, I do not think that it is extraordinary in its placements. In fact, places like Oxbridge, UPF, CEMFI place better or equally well.

Is the TUSP is mutually exclusive with the Koopman's scholarship? I was wondering about this as it seems that 5000 euro a year is a bit of a stretch to live on without other sources of income, haha.

btw, one of my profs likened it to one of the top econ theory schs in Europe.
