To be honest with you, I am flexible. I have a paper published in the American Journal of Agicultural Economics AJAE, which I am going to use to show my ability to do research. My focus was in Internationaal Trade and Development issues. After my MS I found a job as a statistician and have been doing it for 3 years, and I hate it. I just want to get a PhD thats all. I like the Florida program coz its 3 yrs
~ I am 30 so I don't want to spend too much time studying as I understand that too much school doesn't necessarily pay.I'd go with modeling Consumer behaviour if I had a choice. But MONEY (research funds) usually makes the call. |

I think that it can fairly be said that Florida is considered to be an overall stronger department than Clemson. Obviously this may not be the case for every field.
If you want some other comparable programs in the South, take a look at Georgia and Florida State. |

True, true, you guys are RIGHT i think. Or at least you are telling me something I was hoping to hear. I visited Clemson over the July 4th weekend, and I didn't like that town. Its too isolated, it reminds me of Blacksburg Va where I spent 4 years. I had fun, but I think i want more than a one street town, and hence I think Gainesville could be fun. So I need to work hard and get my 1400 for Verb & Quant and I could be on my way to U of Florida. We will see.
Now off to cram the 3500 words in Barrons ~ Hard to do with a full time j.o.b |

Consider Gainesville a "step up:" its a two-street town with Archer Road and University Avenue. Its a college town as much as any other, including the partying and "smallness" of it. Its also a few hours to the nearest large city, although Gainesville has everything you need to survive.
UF also only accepts PhD classes every other year. They'll be accepting a class for Fall 2009. |

I am taking math classes at UF this summer in preperation for applying to PhD econ programs in Fall 09. The area seems nice (much nicer than Tallahassee where I did my undergrad), but life does revolve around campus activities as Gainesville itself is pretty small. You need to have a penchant for hot muggy weather (the swamp is no misnomer!). Everyone Ive met so far seems to be relatively friendly and their are decent bars and eateries in the campus area. The school is particularly spirited (although FSU was just as spirited).
I can answer more specific questions if you have them. |
