Schools allow applying to two programs?

Hi,I am new here.
I wanna know which schools within top20(phd) allow applying to more than one program in one year?Such as applying to both econ and finance.

Some schools' websites are very complicated,I cannot find the information easily...

Till now,I know MIT allows while Princeton,Stanford don't.
How about others such as Harvard?

BTW,is the business economics@Harvard equivalent to Finance?

I'm not sure your information is entirely correct. Stanford certainly allows one to apply to Law school and PhD Econ, as do I think all of the top 20s which have both. Maybe finance is another issue, but more than half of the places I'm applying to will be both in Law and Econ.

Harvard's website seems hasn't mentioned the allowance.

Are abstract algebra, complex analysis, topology and functional analysis helpful to econ/finance application?

What other math courses(except Calculus,Real Ananlysis,Stochastic Process,Stochastic Calculus,Linear Algebra,Probability and Statistics) also help?

I tend to think that if it doesn't explicitly mention DISALLOWANCE, then it is allowed. If a school had to explicitly list EVERY possible thing that is allowed, then the website would be impossible to read through.

Thanks for your input. But I am talking about econ and finance
Law is frightful to me

Law school may be considered different from general majors(science, econ and etc..)...

You should look harder.

Application Instructions and Information

Quote:
Consideration by More than One Program - Occasionally, an application may be transferred by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid to a second department that may be more suitable to the applicant's academic interest. Candidates for admission to member programs in the Harvard Integrated Life Sciences (HILS) may also apply to more than one program (see following section).
The Graduate School does not recommend submission of more than one application. However, if you choose to submit multiple applications (up to a limit of two), the applications may not share any item. Each must have its own transcripts, recommendations, financial data, test scores, etc., and must be accompanied by the correct application fee. If you file more than one application, attach a note to the front page of each, indicating the program numbers and names to which you are applying.
It is Graduate School policy that an individual may submit only one application per program.
It is Graduate School policy that an individual may submit no more than three applications during the course of his or her academic career.

No, otherwise they would have called it a Finance PhD. But certainly one can study finance within this program. The program has recently produced top candidates in IO/contracting as well.

The program's placements an dissertation topics are here: Recent Alumni - HBS Doctoral Programs

Let me also recommend that you should take a few seconds to do a few google searches before posting on this forum. That works much better than trying to navigate the web sites from their home pages, which seems to be what you're doing.

Usually, when only one application is allowed, this restriction is specific to applications within a college. Most of the time, you can apply to both kinds of programs since Finance and Economics are usually taught in different colleges.

It seems we cannot apply to two programs at Berkeley either.
Admissions FAQ

Looks like I can't apply to both Berkeley econ and Berkeley ARE, even though they are in different colleges within Berkeley
