Law school as well anyone?

Anyone else also applying to Law school as well as Econ Phd?

Do you think getting into one helps your chances with the other if you say you want to do a joint JD/PhD? Do you think the two departments communicate about admissions?

ICECOLDECON just joined TestMagic.
In my studies of departments (keeping in mine that I havent looked in to top 10 schools).....I only found two depts that seemed to really coordinate the JD/PhD programs: Toronto and George Mason.

Columbia and Berkeley both have specifics about the idea.

Departments such as Minnesota, NWU, Yale and and Chicago also note the possibility without giving details. I'm willing to bet many departments with faculty specializing in Law & Econ and have Law schools would willingly entertain the idea.

Vanderbilt has recently created a program in Law and econ. You get the econ phd and the jd i believe.

It is headed up with Kip Viscusi and Joni Hersch if I remember correctly. I asked about the program when I visited vandy a year ago, and it seems extremely selective and difficult to get into. I'm sure its a great program, given the extremely small class size.

Great placements as well. Their sole goal is placing students at top schools as law and econ professors.

Wow, it seems the Vandy program has no application fee... only marginal cost is that to the LORs

@ breakz, the program was launched in 2007. How do you know about their placements?

If I remember correctly, you get a JD and a PhD in Law and Economics. If you're sure that you want to focus on law and economics, then you can't beat Vanderbilt's program.

I don't think it's the same as Vanderbilt's economics PhD program (although they work together), so make sure you apply to the right program.
