Another Class?

Right now, I'm slated to take PhD Metrics, PhD Stocastic Processes (Math Dept), PhD Probability Theory (Stat Dept).

I was going to take PhD Macro, but my teaching assignment for my TA is during that time. That being said, I have a few other options for classes to take.

1. PhD Applied Micro from the ARE department at my school
2. PhD Algebraic Topology from the Math Department
3. PhD Industry Structure course from Econ department
4. Take no more classes, focus on research and teaching

My profile is the first one on the roll call thread if that informs your advice. Thank you everyone.

You already have a very strong background in Econ and Math, so you definitely do not need to take another course. Unless you are very interested in the material or foresee yourself doing research in one of those fields, I would say the extra time is more valuable.

Enjoy your last year, my friend. Take the easier road. Maybe even join a band.

That's the way I was leaning.

I have done some solo gigs with guitar/singing, but have never been able to do the whole band thing... scheduling is always so difficult... I may brush up my bridge skills some more, even though it makes me feel like an old lady :-P

I think the PhD econ courses sounds very good. Just take whichever is interests you more.

Taking a PhD course in algebraic topology is pretty useless for economists. It's using tools of algebra to study topological spaces. A great waste of time and effort, unless you're interested in the subject by itself.

My Drummer has an electric kit, and he lives three doors down from our guitarist, where we do all the rehearsals at. 10am Sat or Sun morning is usually how it goes. We also do plenty of gigs at the Grad Club which is three doors down the opposite way, which is awesome. We've been really lucky with the set up, so that scheduling hasn't been much of a problem. It's a real stress reliever! ...though we do have a gig the day after math camp ends... An hour and a half set no less!

Bridge sounds pretty solid.

I'm sure somehow someway, someone could find applications for algebraic topology-- assuming there isn't much if any now. Maybe Jeeves could come up with some ingenious proof using those techniques, but yeah I'd have to agree that it probably is not that helpful of a course. And I would have to imagine rather difficult. I've flipped through the second half of Munkres a few times this summer and the material looks rather difficult and uninteresting-- though I've never taken Algebra.
