Profile Evaluation

Undergrad: State University, New York, Honors College
Major: Double major mathematics, economics
Undergrad GPA: 3.85 (math courses: 9 A's, 1 B+) (econ courses: 10 A's, 1 A-)
Note: Typical courses for both, calc I,II,III, analysis and proofs, prob. theory, abstract algebra, diff. eqs, linear algebra, mathematical finance etc. in math. Intro and advanced micro/macro, monetary theory, capital markets, econometrics, international economics, finance, risk management, etc. in econ.

Grad: State University, New York
Major: MS Financial Economics
GRAD GPA: 4.0

Teaching experience: 3 years of teaching intermediate macroeconomics, during 2 of which I was supervising TA (basically managed 5-6 other TA's, taught review classes when prof. didn't want to etc.)

Research experience: Nothing published but I wrote class notes (about 70 pg) under professor's guidance which are used in several of the schools intermediate macroeconomic theory classes.

GRE: 790Q, 560V, 5.5 awa

LOR: 3 Chicago, 1 Rochester

Do I have a reasonable shot at schools like rochester or cornell? My concern is that I never took real analysis, though hopefully my otherwise strong math background is enough to outweigh this. I'll also be taking two semesters of grad level stochastic methods this coming year.

pevdoki1 is almost a TestMagic guru.
Which SUNY are you from? I ask being a recent Binghamton grad (I'm going to Minnesota).

I would say your chances are quite good, by the way.

How much will not having real analysis effect me? I did unofficially audit it so I'm somewhat familiar with the material. I took several other math classes that were nearly or entirely proof based so I am fairly comfortable with writing mathematical proofs. Analysis and Proofs, Abstract Algebra, Prob. Theory, and Math Finance were all proof based courses.

Plenty of people get in good places without RA. Look at the Profiles and Results threads from the past 2 years.

Thanks, thats good to hear. I'm already taking 6 classes next semester and I was hoping I wouldn't have to add RA as a 7th.
