Online video course in micro/macro
Does anyone know if there is an online video course for reviewing intermediate Micro or Macro? My first thoughts were of MIT's OpenCourseWare, but I don't believe they film the classes (though I may be wrong). Perhaps something along the lines of Adrian Banner's Calculus Lifesaver course, but for economics.

The only video lectures I know of available online are of intermediate macro from UC Berkeley, Fall 2006. I've never watched them myself, so I have no idea of the quality. Or if it's anything like the lectures you're talking about, as I've never seen them either.

Looks like they have intermediate micro as well from Spring 2007. Looks boring as all hell, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

That is perfect - exactly what I was looking for! I looked at UC Berkeley through iTunes U, but I thought I only saw mp3's. I've been out of school for a while so I wanted to review the concepts before starting graduate school. Thanks, again!

If you've already taken the classes, I think picking up a textbook would be more efficient. I mean think about it, to get much out of a course you have to read the textbook anyway. I heard that Hal Varian's Intermediate Micro book is good. In terms of Intermediate Macro, I don't have any recommendations, but I'm sure other TMers will (although I've been told that Intermediate Macro and PhD Macro are completely difference, so you might just be wasting your time reviewing Intermediate Macro).

Bookwise, we used Intermediate Micro by Varian and the Micro text by Pindyck and Rubinfeld. Both are good, though I have strong reasons to prefer Varian. Check EconPhD for grad level course notes. The Harvard one is esp good for consumer theory basics.
MIT OCW doesnt have videos of eco lectures. I also tried looking for the same. |

I still have my Pindyck/Rubinfeld text, which I do plan to review for Micro. So I definitely agree with you guys that reading through the text and working the problem sets again is probably the best.
I'm just a big believer in supplementing my learning process. For Calculus I-III, in addition to working the problems from Stewart (my course's text), I watched the lectures I mentioned above and worked the problems on mathxl.com (based on Thomas). Something about approaching a topic from different angles with different explanations really helps me master a topic. But watching the videos are definitely a supplement to working through the intermediate texts themselves. |
