Have Economic Debates Changed Since 1977?
I came across a great piece in the New York Times's Freakonomics Blog regarding a 1977 JPE article by George Stigler, entitled 'The Conference Handbook.' I think that most of the reasons listed are still valid, but there are definitely some new ones that have come up.
In honor of JPE being from Chicago, I'll suggest another standard comment about research papers: Did you check the robustness of your conclusions using the Heckit estimator? (John List and the other Chicago folks, I know you hate the word Heckit. But we like how it goes with logit and probit, so sorry!) ![]() Any other standard comments on research papers?
