How do you get a GPA so high> Doesnt it depend on your classes and what type they are?

The UC formula uses weighted GPA, which means that honors/AP/IB classes get bonus credit. Also, remember their forumula for calculating GPA is extremely generous, so even a couple of B's won't do too much.

Hmm thats cool. I have alot of honors classes and some AP too. But I duno how they do it here in Philly.

haha... UCs are really cool because they only take soph, junior, and first semester of senior year, and the +/- thing doesn't count(A=4, B=3, C=1) plus 1 point for an honors/AP. so that works in my favor for most of things, except first semester of junior year. I've got a 3.667 UW UCGPA and a 4.083 W UCGPA.

Colleges calculate GPAs differently, but most use the whole A is 4, A- is 3.666, B+ is 3.333, B is 3, etc, etc and add 1 point for AP/honors classes.

Sorry, but most colleges in the Northeast base your GPA on the typical 4.0 scale, which usually does not give bonus credit to Honors/AP/IB classes.

While it does not sound fair, you have to remember the UC system is extremely competetive so it gives colleges another way to differentiate prospective candidates.

Hmm, then if htet do the same thing here, I think they take our grades from freshman year through 11th grade. So I duno what mine is, but I calculated my 11th grade one using the points u listed, so I have a 4.28 I beleive; Next year I have more AP classes and all honors so if I do good in them hopefully, it should rise.

weighted? Well, that kicks my GPA's ***, but I've always had a pretty sucky GPA. Remember UCs don't count PE classes, just their a-g, which helps me a lot because I sucked at PE. Maybe I should've actually ran laps instead of walking to spite my teacher that told us, "Run, ladies, run! Don't be so wimpy! How the hell do you expect to get a husband if you're out of shape and fat like that? Run, wimpies, run!"

Yeh thats what I calculated from what you gave me. And yes they do give extra weight to honors and AP classes last time I asked my teachers. They do this because we have different ratings. We have average, rapid, star and some AP classes, the average and rapid are regualr points i believe, but the star and AP as teachers have told me, they weigh star and AP more so that if you take more star and AP classes then your rank actually gets better if you do good.

That I can not tell you yet because I woke up this mornin, did everything I had to do and then got on the comoputer to check the scores, and NO SCORES!!!!! It says wait till July 2nd, which is a Saturday!
