Can use "I" or "You" in SAT essay or not?

I've seen many example essays where students wrote I or you and got a 12. Is it okay to use them because technically, you are not allowed to use them when writing an essay...
Any opinions??

There is absolutely no rule against using the first- or second-person in an essay; it is certainly more formal to use only third-person for whatever reason. (I suppose people feel it's simply too easy to write in the first- or second-person.)

At any rate, College Board has specifically said that using first-person is acceptable.

I've read thousands of SAT-style essays, and trust me, the problems that most people have are not related to overuse of the first- or second-person.

Check out this article: SAT2400 - SAT Prep - Can I use I on my SAT essay?
