ilam Posted August 28, 2015 Share Posted August 28, 2015 I think the second is correct, because whenever we want to replace a part of sentence by an AUX,it is selected based on the verb of previous clause or sentence, in this example "gave" is the verb and the suitable AUX will be DID nothing else. but in a sentence like the following "had" is correct : The final speaker had given us more details than HAD any of the previous speakers.
