Not only were Arthur Miller's plays well-received by critics; they were also known for their sensitive treatment of everyday people _______ social injustice.

a) who coping with
b) coping with
c) to cope with
d) coping

Which is the correct choice, b) or c)?
If one is the correct one, why not the other?

Thanks , TestMagic!

b is the correct answer.
* We can write like this " who cope with".

* When we ommit "who" , We must write "coping with" (reducing clauses)

Emine is correct; B is what we call a 'reduced adjective clause.' If it helps you, we often use the -ing form of a verb after a noun to explain what the noun is doing (the continuous action of that noun).

C is incorrect because we cannot use the 'to cope' form here; the meaning is illogical. Look at this correct usage of the 'to cope' form:

Many people use different types of therapies, from formal to informal, to cope with the stress of everyday life.

Hope that helps!

Please post further questions here.
