I think A. should be "an irony" or ajective "ironical" or "ironic" is OK for me.

"irony" is absolutely a countable noun.

I would naturally say "It is ironic that..." but at least at the TOEFL level, "It is an irony that..." is PERFECTLY acceptable. "irony" is "absolutely a countable noun," as ttthdl has stated.

BTW, ironical sounds very, very old, and is NOT used any more.
