"Become" is a linking verb and could be used in such situtations as :
Become + noun (smt/s.one)
Become+adj
there force, C) is the best choice

IMO, it would be wrong if we say so. You may have confused "become" with "begin". You see we can say "begin to do/ doing sth", right?
