The answer is D) but to me it must be b)

2)His father does not approve of him to go to the banquet without dressing formally.

Here our answer is b) Well, I can estimate this choice but why???

3)We wish today was sunny so that we could spend the day in the country communing with nature.

A: a) What is the correction ???


4)Max will rather to be fishing from his boat in the lake than sitting at his desk.

A: a) what is the correction do you think???

5)I do not believe that I have ever seen as many expensive cars than were in that shopping center.

A: b) Appearantly than must be as , but in that case c) spoils the meaning of the sentence.What do you think??

approve of + pronoun + Ving
approve of his going...

It should be "fishing" to make a parallel structure with "sitting". But sth disturbes me here.I think "would rather" would sound better. But, then,Ving pattern doesn't fit. I'm confused. Are you sure the rest of the sentence is correct?

Not at all. We have an "as....as" pattern here. And the rest sounds OK to me.
