1.The primary function of any business is to generate a profit, motivating managers running their operations as efficiently as possible.
A. Primary
B. to generate
C. running
D. as

Answer is marked C. I feel B is also wrong as it does not follow the rule of parallelism.

Shouldn't it be:
The primary function of any business is GENERATING a profit, motivating managers AND running their operations as efficiently
as possible.

2.The notion that an infant’s brain is a tabula rasa or “blank slate” is one that has been expressed by many developmental
psychologies for decades.
A. The notion that
B. an infant’s
C. has been expressed
D. psychologies

The answer is D. I know one can argue that it should be PSYCHOLOGISTS
But can't "psychologies" express.???

3. So-called “Silicon Valley,” home to Stanford University and to some of the United States’ foremost high technology corporations, is a loosely defined area in the Santa Clara Valley in Northern California.
A. So-called
B. home to
C. foremost
D. loosely defined

Why is A the answer?

Erin pls. help me.

I think we should add Determiner before 'so-called'. It might be 'The so-called'. Because we can identify the noun here.

psychology, the subject we study in school, is a non-count noun; otherwise, your reasoning would be correct, as I have pointed out in another question recently.

Nadiya is absolutely right--"Silicon Valley" needs a determiner.

HTH!! (Hope that helps!!)
