Can you pls explain me the answer for the following question?

The methods of socialogical reasearch are essentially the one used in all scientific [u]inquiry[u].

I thought the answer be 'inquiry' . But the answer is 'the one'.

The methods are the one.
Should change to:
The methods are the ones.

Thanks Lee Shi. But is 'inquiry' a correct one. I thought it should be 'inquiries' since we have 'all' before 'scientific inquiry.'

Thanks

user is absolutely correct here. inquiry can be used as either a count noun or a non-count noun, depending on the meaning.

inquiry (count)= research
inquiry (non-count)= question

As we should remember from our (boring) grammar lessons, all can be used with both count and non-count nouns.

So, again, user was right!

HTH!! (Hope that helps!!)

Erin
