up and upward
According to Wasley :
Most sand dunes are always in motion as wind pushes sand up one side of each dune, over the top, and down the other side I still don't understand about the different between up and upward in this case? Can any one of yu can give a clear explaination? Whether they have different meaning or using upward is wrong in grammar ?

As far as my knowledge, "up" is the source word, "upward" was "invented"
based on it. So, if you have to choose between "up" & "upward", of course your choice is "up".Moreover, "upwards" or "upwardly" is also considered as adv. It means many people still use "upward" as adj only. Actually i'm not so sure 'bout this, just hope it may help you in some ways. Cheer! |
