    Let's explain Qs of the following:

    (A) which was brainchild
    (B) was brainchilded in
    (C) brainchild
    (D) was the brainchild

    10. For the first time in 70 years, ---- aspirin¡¯s potential beyond reducing pain, fever and inflammation.
    (A) researchers were beginning to understand
    (B) researchers begin understanding
    (C) researcher¡¯s understanding of
    (D) researchers began their understanding

    15. The incredible thing about telephones ---- across the continents, but that you can recognize the other person¡¯s voice.
    (A) is not that people can instantly talk to each other
    (B) is that people can talk instantly to each other
    (C) is it provides instant talking to each other
    (D) is it allows people to talk instantly


    32. Today, of our 6 billion population, nearly 1 billion adults cannot read -- and two-thirds of they are women.

    How about A? not....but....
    Yes, after a second thought, I think you are right. ''but'' in the second part of the sentence requires a contrast situation in the first part. Q15 should be ''A'', not ''B''.

    To this question, I still do not understand why the answer has to be "A". What clue forces us to choose the past tense here? and What about B, I think it is perfectly ok.

    Normally we can use both -ing and infinitive structures after begin.
    But, the -ing form is not used after progressive form of begin.
    I was beginning to get angry. (Not: ....getting...)
    And, after begin (or start), the verb understand (or realize) is only used in the infinitive form.
