Today`s nulclear fission fuels are the remnants of which used to be a much more active mixture of radioactive and fissionable materials two billion years ago and earlier.

Petrography concerns primarily with the detailed description and class fication of rocks where as petro;ogy deals primarily with rock formation.

Vitalism, which believes in a vital force totally separate from that of energy, was under the forefront of philosophy in the early part of the century.

David Suzuki is a Canadian biology who has devoted his life to bringing about an increase in awareness of the nature.

These are good, tricky questions!

of which ==> of what

We use "which" for adjective clauses, "what" for noun clauses.

concerns ==> is concerned

We need passive voice here.

under ==> at.

It's best to memorize prepositions--"at the forefront." If it helps, we use "at" for the extremes of areas, such as "at the front," "at the back," or "at the bottom," and "forefront" is the edge of a metaphoric area.

Two mistakes here.

biology ==> biologist (person, not the subject)

and

the nature ==> nature.

We do NOT use "the" with nature.

Hope that helps!!

Hi

Quote:
We do NOT use "the" with nature.
But, 'the' is used when the reference is to the nature of a person/place/thing.

e.g.,

The nature of wild animals is such that they attack anyone who poses a threat to their life.

His job is to study the nature of hurricanes.

am I correct?

Of course you're correct!! Yes; when "nature" means "character," we MUST use a determiner.

When "nature" refers to, well, "nature" (the general type) then we don't use "the."

TOEFL likes this type of question because it's kind of a quirk of English. Other languages that use articles use "the" with "nature," and, of course, "nature" is a specific thing, right? Which makes us think that we need to use "the." TOEFL loves to trick us!

Some other favorite TOEFL tricks that follow this pattern: love, life, school subjects, elements, compounds, etc.
