Pilot whales have big, round, bulbous head and are members of the dolphin family.
A. have

Correct answer is B.

In this question I think choice A should be correct because each whale has one head .so it will looke like

Did you read my explanation for this question? Here it is:

Quote:
head is a singular count noun. We need a determiner for every singular count noun or we need to make the singular count noun a plural noun. This is one of the most common mistakes--we need to look at every underlined noun and figure out whether it is a count or non-count noun. If it is a count noun, is singular and does not have a determiner, then it is wrong. In this case, we need to change head to heads. We have some other clues here as well--whales, are, and members all tell you that we are talking about many whales and we should also use the plural form of head.
I think you were asking also about whether we could use head, since a whale has only one head. In English, if we talk about one whale, we could use head, but you must agree that many whales have many heads, so we've got to use the plural form.

HTH!!

BTW, I have a question which somewhat relates to that of neetu08 to Mr Erin.
As I know, We should never let the noun which implies a certain part of a humanbeing 's body stand alone without a possessive pronoun.

for example:

he raised the hand<---- incorrect.

he raised his hand <---correct.

Is the statement above true???

In the case it is true, do we have to apply that rule where a noun indicates a part of an animal (not a humanbeing) ?

please answer me that question , and yes, Point out my probable grammatical errors in the post also,.
Thanks in advance

My best regards,

HArbinger

Hi,
B is right.
Since the verbs are "have" and"are", the subject should be plural form. So here B should be corrected as" bulbous heads".

body parts and clothing are the two most common nouns that use this rule. And yes, we follow the same rule for animals, insects, reptiles, even plants, and machines!

I made a couple of edits in your post, if you look carefully!!
