A grammar question

In---people,the areas of the brain that control speech ate located in the left hemisphere.
(B) most
(D) the most of
The ans is B and fortunately I chose the right ans after hesitating between the two stems for awhile. But I still cant explain why D is not correct. Can anybody help me out, thanx

First, I was surprised that there was such a usage "In most people." Anyhow, this is not talking about specific people, and this is why I wouldn't choose D. Ask somebody else. Take care.

In most people is correct.

We would not say in the most of people, but we might possibly say in the majority of people.

I suspect this is because most is a superlative = the greatest number of, so using the most of would be a tautology (but I don't do grammar, I just speak the language so I may be wrong on that. )
