fishy
Question: Most sand dunes are always in A)motion as wind pushes sand B)upward one side of each dune, over the top, C)and down D)the other side. According to TOEFL, the answer is B. But what should "upward" be changed to? By the way, I am taking the test soon.....my friend took it last year, and she got 623!!! (Just a 14 year-old girl!!!:shy:) But I just don't understand why her Eng exam results in school aren't very good. Does the TOEFL result really show a person's english skills? hsengoren
Most sand dunes are always in A)motion as wind pushes sand B)upward up one side of each dune, over the top, C)and down D)the other side. "upward" is an adverb. We need a preposition here. Actually I'm not so sure about "up" as well. Because we have "over". I'm kind of confused here. But it is obvious that "upward" is not correct. Hippo
Hi guys, I agree with the Hsengoren. First, wind pushes sand up one side of each dune. Second, it pushes it over the top of the dune. Third, it pushes it down the other side of the dune. Best regards.
Erin
Yes, Hsengoren and Hippo are right--"upward" is an adverb, "up" is a preposition.
