    Hi! Moonseeker,

I have finished the tests. And my answer for Q3 is A, Q13 is B. For the Q3, i think there's something wrong with the Q. Because it should be "The harder the test is, the better i do". As for Q13, Victoria and British Columbia are just names of places. So they can not know sth. Instead, they should be known. So i think B is right. As for Q7, the whole sentence is "Neil Armstrong became the first person (who was) walking on the moon". So the answer is A.
I don't know if i have explained it clearly for you or not, but i hope it will help. If you do have different opinions from mine, please tell me......

    Best wishes,
    Kirting

    Hi,

Yeah Q7 the answer is A.

Q3 is A and Q13 is B as mentioned by Kirting.

But I am now wondering about Q5, is the answer C correct

"I would like to know is she coming?"

Could you please explain me does it make sense and which of the A & C is better?

Kirting, I'm not convinced with your explanation to number 7. Can you or someone else elaborate?

    Dear Wood,

I think Kirting is correct because the original sentence is "Neil Armstrong became the first person who walked on the moon". "Who walked on the moon" is an adjective clause which can be reduced because the connector Who is also the subject of the clause. In reducing the clause it doesn't matter what is the tense of the clause, rather, the important thing to remember is that "If after connectors like who there is no BE verb you should omit connector and turn the verb of the clause to the ing form.

Hope I convey my intention well.

    Ali

Thank you cybernike, hope wood see this message.
I was wrong about this situation and "D" is correct.
Believe it or not, you made me confused so that I dived in
bunch of grammars book to find out what is wrong with "A".

With reference to the book "Advanced grammar in Use":-

When we talk about a single, completed action in the defining relative clause, rather than a continuous action, we cannot reduce the clause. for example:-

The girl who fell over on the ice broke her arm. (not The girl falling over ...).

Therefore, D is correct because all other answers in a way are the reduced form of adj. clauses.

    Bye
