I must admit I am a little confused by the sentence. Can you explain how you interpret this sentence?

I agree with the crossline's answer.
I also think that “A” is correct because both “B” and “C” make the first clauses having two verbs, if so they are incorrect. And If “D” is used, it is an incomplete clause.
