    Hi my friends,

I have a question from the TOEFL Practice Test book, vol1. I don't know which grammar point is applied to this question. Can anyone help me please?

    The question is:
    - Nebraska has floods in some years, ........
    (A) in others drought
    (B) droughts are others,
    (C) while other drought
    (D) others in drought.

I chose (D) but the correct anwer is A. I think the answer should be "drought in others", isn't it?

any comment is welcome and thanks,
    Tu

I think it is an adv inversion.

    "which is drought in others"

    -->"in others drought"

Maybe I am wrong, if anyone know the right one, please correct me.

I think it's a kind of parallel structure.

Nebraska has floods in some years and has droughts in other years.

I think it should be Nebraska has floods in some years, in others (year) (it's) drought

It sounds good! so the second part of this sentence is a kind of reduced adverb clause, isn't it?

    Hi,
Nebraska has floods in some years, in others (has) drought
Inversion (prep. phrase at the beginning of a sentence), then "has" is reduced.

It sounds good too but Can we reduce the verb of this question?

Can anyone explain this question? It seems that this question is the toughest question I've ever met!

    (B) droughts are others, ====> wrong becasue of no conjunction.
    (C) while other drought =====> wrong because of without a verb in while clause.
    (D) others in drought. ====>The problem is "others" VS "Nebraska", but no verb, no conjunction.

I chose (D) but the correct anwer is A. I think the answer should be "drought in others", isn't it?

the original sentence should be read like:

Nebraska has floods in some years, (and Nebraska has drought) in other years.
