It will help you a little bit, but the problem (a <font face='Comic Sans MS'>
<font size=6>BIG</font id=size6> </font id='Comic Sans MS'> problem) will be that you won't have a script to see precisely what they said since the PowerPrep doesn't give a script or any other review for that matter. If you use the paper tests, you can see a script, which will help you a lot more!! Hope that helps! Please post further questions here. So, Erin, what do you think is the most helpful way to improve the ability of listening? How do you help the students in your class to improve it? Sometimes I can understand every word but can't understand the whole sentence. Or I'm too nervous to remember the former sentences.
Looking forward your help. thanks a lot! |

Hello again, 21cn.
When you listen, do you understand every word as it is spoken? Or does it take you a moment or two to understand it? I'm asking because I know that a 'delay' in understanding can make it harder to understand all the words that come after a word you're trying to 'deciper.' I remember when I first started learning Portuguese, I could understand newscasts fairly well, but would get lost around the middle because I couldn't keep up with the pace; in other words, they were speaking faster than I could listen!! Does any of this apply to you? Let me know, and I'll post back!! Erin |

Exactly. I think it did take me a little time to react to. If I can relax myself, I can understood more than a half when I watching TV. Then how could I improve listening? Listening to each word or keeping practising the whole speech?
Thanks a lot! |

You're in GREAT shape, then!
As long as you're understanding all the words, even with a delay, then the best thing for you to do now is simply practice, practice, practice. The only way you'll build up your speed is by increasing your familiarity with spoken English vocab. As your familiarity increases, so will the time needed to recognize each word decrease. This concept is key to learning and to tests in general (and is one of the reasons most or all tests given by ETS are timed). So, again, you're on the right track!! Great! That makes me happy! Erin |
