Help! One question that confused me!

This question make me really confused, can anybody help?
W: I had a wonderful time on my date last night.
M: You don't say. Do tell?

What does the man mean?
(A) He has no interest in the woman's social life.
(B) It would be better if the woman did not tell him about her date.
(C) He is eager to hear about the woman's date.
(D) The man suspects that the woman is being sarcastic.

What do they mean by "you don't say, do tell"?

I think the answer of the man very clear to know that He is eager to hear about the woman's date

"M: You don't say. Do tell?"
He needs the woman to tell him more and more so, He is eager

Good Luck

Alaa

I think " you don't say. Do tell?" means " Oh why not tell me before? Tell me now?" And answer C is correct absolutely.

jessielee,

I think you don't say is just an idiom which can't really be explained. It roughly = really?/goodness me!/wow! or similar expressions of mild surprise.

In this context do tell = tell me more/give me the details.

idiom?

my answer.
the answer is c.

have you got the tone of the man upon saying those words? those words would mean that the man wants to know more.

it is like, "Really? or You are? Tell me." The key words in the talk, if you weren't able to get the idea of the words "you don't say", the words "do tell" would clearly indicate that he is asking the woman to explain/say to him all the details about her date.

sometimes, you do not think the meaning of words piece by piece, just like your idioms.

danke
