M: Excuse me, can I ask you when the next train arrives to Hampshorevile?
W: It'll be there in just a minute, so please take a seat. Q: What does the woman mean? (A) She said the train would come soon. (B) She said he should book quickly because the train is coming (C) She asked the man to meet her at the arrival section. (D) She asked him to wait for the stop. Q: Do you know where the conversation takes place? What does 'next' mean? If he is in the train, he will not say next. If he is in the station other than Hampshorevile, the ans. should be (A). But the ans. is (D). May you explain why?[bomb] |

On the other hand, we may think that her intention is to ask him to wait by the phases "in just a minute" and "please take a seat". However, I agree with you it is a very tough question and will not appear in the real test. |
