Hm, I have somehow cancelled my last post , so here is the question again ;-)

W: Didn’t we have a good time this summer? How could it have been any better?
M: Say that again? I can’t think of a single thing that wasn’t boring.
Q: What does the man mean?

What did the man mean when he said "Say that again?".
May be it wasn't the first time when he expressed his opinion about the party to the woman. Am I right?

You are welcome to post your comments. Thanks in advance.

I think something is missing in the conversation. The second speaker should say "You can say that again."

It is an idiom which means "I agree with you." It was discussed here:

Well, may it be.
I downloaded it from the Chinese site, so scripts may contain errors.
Thank you for the idea.

Say that again?

In my point, it is used in spoken English in daily life. In this case, the man disagree with the women by saying it.

I did the test myself and it made sense after examining it with the options. Let's have look again:

W: Didn’t we have a good time this summer? How could it have been any better?
M: Say that again? I can’t think of a single thing that wasn’t boring.
Q: What does the man mean?

(A) He agrees the summer wasn’t very good but can’t think of what went wrong.
(B) He doesn’t want her to mention this anymore.
(C) He disagrees and think that nothing has been very exciting.
(D) He agrees strongly and can’t think of anything that wasn’t boring.

The answer is C.
"Say that again?" = "Are you kidding?" or "How can you say that?" or "I don't agree with you"

I can’t think of a single thing that wasn’t boring. = I can say everyting was boring. (nothing was exciting)

I hope it makes sense now.

Sorry, I forgot something important to say in my last post.

Although " U can say that again" is an idiom which means I agree with u. But, we must pay attention to the speakers' tone. It is very important. Sometimes It means the opposite oppinion actrually.
