Hi dear Test Magic!
My name is Svetlana. I am going to take TOEFL in 3 weeks, and I hope that I have enought time to get prepared for it. It is by chance that I've found YOU, guys, and would like to say that I really appreciate you for managing such a great and noble website.
I believe what I do know is correct - I'm just going through all forum topics and trying to get on with the things. As I was looking through the Listening topics, I've found the "TOEFL Listening: I couldn't agree more..." page. Unfortunately, there is one thing I don't understand well, and thus I've decided to ask you about it. Could you please explain me what does it mean in terms of logic: "I couldn't agree less." ???
Thanks in advance, Svetlana

Hi, welcome to the forum,
I think you are referring this page:
http://www.TestMagic.com/toefl/liste...re.htm#answers

I'll try to give you my approach.
I couldn't agree more = I agree with you a lot. (I agree with so much that I can not name it. I cannot find a better term to express my support.)

I couldn't agree less = I don't agree with you a bit. (My approval to your statement is so low that I cannot find a better term.)

Hi hsengoren,
thanks a lot for your reply - and you're absolutely right, I'm really referring to that page!
Yep, I've got your idea about both expressions, but I don't know why, the first is much easier for me to follow (I couldn't agree more) in logic, the second - "...less" sounds more artificially. But this is ok, I just have to memorize that [8)].
Best Regards, Svetlana
