Hi everyone,
I am from Vietnam. Although I will take the actual TOEFL test in November 15,2003, I still get some troubles in listening, especially in Part A. Could you suggest me some strategies to crack this section ? Also in part B and Part C, is anyone has great strategies ? Please help me. I appreciate your help.

The number one strategy for Part A is:
Listen to the second speaker
In 28 of the 30 questions you can choose the answer without even hearing the 1st speaker!!! It is true!
So focus on the second speaker. Also you need to prepare for some tricks that they use... here is one:
"So I heard you had an interesting day at school."
"Yes, the students had the teachers take the test!"
--"Who took the test?"
A) students
B) teachers
C) the man
D) no one
Of course the answer is B, but when listening you might get confused and choose the logical answer A (because usually students take tests!)
There are many other tricks... check some other sites (including this one, TESTMAGIC is GREAT!) for more help, or email me!

Does this method really help test-takers much on their Section A??
Thanks for helping a newcomer !
Have you guys checked out this page: TOEFL Listening Strategies? It has some important information.
About the "strategy." It is true that most of the questions can be answered on the basis of the information presented by the second speaker (most of our students know this), but it is also true that it is sometimes hard to understand what the second speaker says (many of our students tell us this!!). Therefore, it's really important to listen to both the first and second speakers. Sometimes what the first speaker says can help you understand what the second speaker says.
Good luck, and welcome to TestMagic!!![]()
