Difficult with new vocabulary
I have problem when I listen to some lecture about history or science, for there are a lot of new words.
Can anyone who has experience tell me how to overcome this. Thanks! |

It seems that nobody answer me. So I will ask more detail, it may easy for someone to help me.
Should I learn a lot of new words (terminological words only occur in biology, art, history ...) or just eliminate it and guest the hold idea of the lecture. I think it is not necessary to study these words because I will not use it in my major. |

I am not professional at Eng and I 'm going to take an TOEFL exam in 2 moths from now so you might not beleieve me 100%.
For me, there are some clusters of vocab which you need to know the meaning in order to know the core of reading context. You can find these neccessary words in common TOEFL VOCAB books in book stores. In my case, I use one which the publisher is Mcgrawhill. Most books will provide some practice which make you remember the meaning more easily and lastlong. By the way, there are other good sources you can find. PS : The word that isn't included in these source may be not needed to know before. You can guess its meaning by reading the previous paragraphs or the contiguous sentences. |
