Maryrayly
I took TOEFL iBt today... and what really surprised me was the fact that I had 70 questions on my reading part (14+28+28). I have never seen any information that there are so many questions. Is it new format???
TOEFL Corey
No, it's not anything new. You were randomly selected to receive two EXTRA reading passages. The extra passages are for research purposes and do not count towards your actual score... (They do the same thing with the listening sections, and some students end up with 9 passages rather than 6.)

Posting in capitals is considered poor internet etiquette and regarded by many as shouting. Capitals are also harder to read than lower case with capitals used in the right places only. yahiamounir
looool ok man nvm i am sorry, i am asking what toefl courrey means by that the extra passage are for research purpose and they dont count toward ur actual score. He means that if i didnt answer it will not affect my score and they r really not considered!!
TOEFL Corey
What it means is that your reading section score will be based on the same three passages (and questions) that everyone else worked on. However, two of the passages you worked on are for ETS to do research and prepare future questions. The problem, though, is that when you take the test you don't know which 3 are the actual passages for that day's exam and which 2 are just for research purposes. Therefore, you have to try your best on all 5 passages (even though I know it "zaps" a lot of your energy).
