What is "music-making"?
Clearly our present general failure to participate in music-making is not due to any national lack of the musical faculty or to the absence of a desire to play and sing. We are directly descended from any number of musical nations. Among the scores of persons to whom I talked of this, I do not remember one intelligent adult, classed as 'no-musical,' who did not envy those lucky ones who were able to make their music together. While the radio and the phonograph have perhaps contributed to the discouragement of some amateur virtuosos, these devices can never eliminate permanently the fundamental need for the individual adventure in music. On the contrary, by spreading the knowledge of music they will greatly stimulate the desire for general music-making.
Q. What does the writer mean by "music making"? a. composing music b. playing professionally c. playing or singing for personal pleasure d. manufacturing musical instruments I went with "B" at first, but OA is "C", and then "C" seems to me right. However, some doubt remains in my mind, and I get to write this question. According to the words "amateur" virtuosos or "general" music-making, does it imply "for personal pleasure" in "C"? What's your opinion? |
