Please could any one tell me that what does "reading is not adaptive" means??? Does ETS count the time I spend on the reading section? I wonder if my score of reading section gets lower or not if I spend the whole given time to accomplish this part??? Erin, please could you tell me? because I usually spend much time on reading.

Hi

Reading is not adaptive means......that the Reading comprehension section is not "COMPUTER ADAPTIVE" like structure and listening
sections.

In a TOEFL, the difficulty level of the next ques changes according to the question u hv just answered. This means that if you answer the question correctly, the next question you get is more difficult.
So, the computer adapts to your level and you can't go back to a question ones you have confirmed the answer.

But the reading section is not adaptive. You can skip a question and come back to it a later stage.

Hope that Helps.

Hi

There is a limited time to every section. You can't spend more than that time. Like Reading Comprehension is the last section in a TOEFL is abt one and a half hrs. long. There are about 4-5 psgs and 11-14 questions for each passage.

You can't spend more than 1 hr 30 min on RC. If you are not able to complete all the questions in this time, your score would be hit badly.

So, try to pace yourself.

By the way, 1 hr. 30 min is more than enough for RC in TOEFL. So don't worry. There are very few "implied" kind of questions. They basically test you in English usage. I hope you are aware of this by now.

Best of Luck. And Keep Cool!!!

HTH
Arti

Thank you for your patience, Arti! I always accomplish all questions the reading section in less than 40 minutes but in fact I caused many mistakes (sometimes up to 10 or even more). So in the real test, I would like to spend all given time to answer each question in this section more carefully. So my question is that "Does my TOEFL score base on how fast I finish the section?" Is my score higher if I finish all questions very rapidly???
I ask this quesion because in some TOEFL disks like Caplan, Cambridge,... these programs always analysis my answers, including times I spend on each question!
Arti, would you be patient enough to answer me one more time???
Thank you in advance, Arti!

Hi

The score you get on the READING COMPREHENSION section of the TOEFL does NOT depend on the time you spend on answering the section.

You are required to answer all the questions (hopefully) in the stipulated amount of time.

There will be no "Bonus" for completing the section before time.

The TOEFL test prep. software like Kaplan and Cambridge give the time spent on each question, inorder to help you analyse your performance. for example, you may discover that you spent a lot of time on one particular question, and still got it wrong.

It's wise to utilize as much time as you can, reading the passage and analyzing your answer choices, as long as you make sure that you complete all the questions in time.

If you happen to complete all the questions well before time, I think you can go back to previous questions, or any questions you were unsure of the answer, and review them.

Hope I am clear.

All the Best.

Raghuveer.

Hi

The score looks fine. But try to work more on listening. One tends score less in listening on the actual test, maybe bcoz of stress.
And be patient with the reading section.

cheers and all the best.

I replied to this, but my Internet went down that day.

Everybody is right. And, in specific response to your query, Raghuveer is right:

Time does not count in your score!!
